Tucked away next to a popular caravan park is a small sandy golden coastline that is so quiet and tranquil that it feels like your "own private beach". Known as one of the cleanest beaches in the area, Fisherman's Haven Beach in Northumberland is the ideal getaway spot for families this Easter weekend.

There are several ways to reach the beach, but the main one leads from Berwick Holiday Park, with steps going down picturesque cliffs to the headland. Fisherman Haven Beach is not only known for its outstanding natural beauty but for offering a good chance for wildlife-spotting. Whilst visiting, families can look out for ringed plovers, eider ducks and oystercatchers around the beach, according to the UK Beach Guide.

"Visitors are sometimes lucky enough to spot seals, dolphins, porpoises and even the occasional basking shark in the waters off this part of the coast," writes the UK Beach Guide.

According to Travel site Sandee, visitors can enjoy a plethora of free activities at the beach, including swimming, fishing, hiking, building sand castles and more. Dogs are also welcomed for those who want to bring along their furry friends. 

Despite the beach being known for its low tide, visitors are warned that there are no lifeguards monitoring the beach, but it is accessible to swim. Families are also warned that there are no toilets or food that can be purchased on the beachfront.

However, Fisherman's Haven Beach is an incredibly scenic place to have an affordable homemade picnic with your family or travel into town for nearby restaurants and vendors.

Fisherman's Haven Beach boasts an impressive 4.5 stars on Tripadvisor. 

Reviewing their visit, one person said: "The park and the nearby beach would make a great stop for families, for a picnic or simply to enjoy a unique small park on the Northern Cape Drive."

Another person agreed: "Beautiful spot with a lovely boardwalk. Clean washrooms and a nice space for picnicking. The beach itself is long and good for a walk of beach combing. Bring your own refreshments as there are not restaurants etc nearby."

Taking their family to Fisherman's Haven beach, Richie_and_linz shared a YouTube video of their experience and said: "Check this out (it feels like) our own personal beach," as their children played among the beautiful cliffs and buried their feet in the golden sand. 

Luckily, it is located is just a short walk from the historic town of Berwick-on-Tweed.

In the town centre, families can explore three fascinating museums, including the Berwick-upon-Tweed Barracks and Main Guard (priced at £4.43 per adult and £2.33 per child), the Berwick Museum and Art Gallery (£5 per adult but free for children), and the Town Hall Museum and Cell Block (free to enter).
