A traveller survey has revealed the world's least loved city break outside of Europe, deemed an "overrated" break that is a "total rip-off." The seaside city placed last in the Which? world city survey, which asked more than 1,500 tourists to rate their experiences of cities outside of Europe over the past year.

After receiving feedback on almost 2,500 city visits, a sunny Florida city ranked the lowest with a score of 56 percent, based on travellers' overall satisfaction with their stay and the likelihood they would recommend it. After answering questions on the quality of food and drink, cultural sights, tourist attractions, ease of getting around and value for money, Miami came last in the 35-city ranking.

Deemed "overrated", it scored just one star for cultural sights and for value for money, with one British tourist calling it a "total rip off" that was “very expensive compared to the UK”.

According to Numbeo, which compares the price of daily expenses in different cities, a three-course meal in a mid-range restaurant cost £84 for two people, while a cappuccino was £4.

Which? revealed that the average airfare was £569 at the time of the survey based on Skyskanner prices, and an average three or four star hotel was £167 per night, based on kayak.co.uk.

Miami scored slightly higher for food and drink, accommodation, ease of getting around and lack of crowds with two stars, while its saving grace was the quality of shopping, for which it scored three out of five stars.

However, one resident Layah Heilpern deemed it a "paradise", having wrote on X: "The problem with living in Miami is it's a constant paradise. I never want to go on holiday. Every time I leave I just want to get back asap.

"The hotels are never as nice as my home, the weather is never as good, the people are never as good, the ocean and the palm trees are never as pretty and the food is never as good! Whenever I leave, I can't wait to get back!"

The bright lights of Las Vegas weren't far behind Miami on the rankings, with a score of just 58 percent, and it didn't reach more than two stars in any category.

In contrast, Cape Town in South Africa came number one with a traveller score of 91 percent, ranking well for its low prices and quality food and drink, being one of the few destinations awarded the full five stars for dining.
